The Future of Social Networking

N/A • 14 Aug 2008 • EDITORIAL, ET CETERA

My experience in social networking is predominantly as a user. I have recently worked on two social networking projects but I am still a user first. I actively maintain profiles on at least three major social networks. One is for business, LinkedIn. Two are predominantly personal, Facebook and ASmallWorld. I am also often on MySpace looking up profiles but I don't ...

We Get A Lemon

Los Angeles • 17 May 2008 • EDITORIAL, ET CETERA

It's early morning and Clay doesn't want to be awake quite just yet. Fortunately, I had an early night. I convince him that I've found the car but we have to move on it immediately. I lost a 635CSI the day before because someone else had pounced on it before I even got a call back. Clay reluctantly agrees.Compression tools in hand, we head out to Long Beach to ...

GPS Experiments at Coachella

Palm Springs • 27 Apr 2008 • H.264 video / 768kbps

At the 2006 Coachella event, I repeatedly lost everyone in my group amongst the crowd of 50,000. Sensitive boy that I am, I took offence thinking my friends were intentionally drifting off. They later convinced me they too had been seperated from the herd. At this year's Coachella, I didn't want to suffer the same fate but wasn't sure how to prevent it. The train of thought got me thinking about GPS enabled mobile phones and the ill-suited "friend finder" applications that are out there. I didn't come up with anything that would solve the immediate problem. However, I did make my Blackberry trackable to friends on Facebook. Afterwards, I was able to see where I'd been in minute detail. Scary! From there, I just got carried away -- taking all the tracking data and putting it into Google Earth and Premiere, creating the animation you see here. Requires the latest Flash 9 player with H.264 support. Duration: 02:00.
